Seymour's 1st Place Blue Ribbon!
The judge yelled, "And the 1st place winner for Best Trick is. . . Seymour!" The crowd went wild. Everyone was cheering, as Seymour's name was called. We were standing on a large outdoor stage in the park, in front of thousands of people. The judge gently placed the blue ribbon on Seymour's neck. Seymour is a dachshund and very short, so the long ribbon had to be placed over his neck twice.
My friends begged me to enter Seymour in the "Best Trick" contest and I finally agreed. We entered the show at a large Dog Festival called, "Bark in the Park," sponsored by the Humane Society. I was very nervous, as dog after dog displayed their spectacular talents, skills, and special stunts. I looked down at little Seymour and he looked up at me. He was so small, compared to the other dogs, I wondered if maybe we made a mistake, even trying to compete. It was getting late and I thought we'd been forgotten.
Finally, our names were called, the very last contestants of the day. It was turning cloudy and cold, as I stood in the middle of the large outdoor stage, facing the crowd. Seymour stood right by me. I have very bad allergies and I had a Kleenex box with me. I placed the Kleenex box right by the judge's table, on the floor in front of them, on the far side of the stage.
There was a long pause, as I looked at Seymour and he looked intently back at me, waiting for his cue. I slowly looked out at the crowd and it grew very, very, quiet. You could hear a pin drop. Seymour never took his eyes off me. All of a sudden I felt a sneeze coming on and I let out a big "KA-CHEW!" I sneezed.
Seymour went as fast as his short, little dachshund legs could carry him over to the Kleenex box, pulled a Kleenex out with his mouth, right in front of the judges, and brought it to me. THAT'S his trick! The crowd erupted in thunderous applause and everyone was laughing and cheering. We were awarded the1st place "Best Trick" Blue Ribbon immediately!
Now, how many little dogs do you know that roll around in a K-9 Cart and get you a Kleenex when you sneeze? We're confident, Seymour is the only one. Not only can you teach an old dog new tricks, you can teach an old dog in a K-9 Cart amazing tricks that also win 1st Place Blue Ribbons.
